What we look for before we sell anything

Most online pet stores carry tens of thousands of products. We carry a few dozen. That's the entire point.

Prime Choice Pets started because the founders kept buying the same kinds of things twice — a chew toy that didn't last a week, a bed that flattened in a month, a feeder that rattled at 3 a.m. We wanted a small, considered shop where every item had been picked because it was good, not because there was margin in stocking it.

Here's the bar each product has to clear before it lands on this site.

Does it solve a real problem? Not a marketing problem — a real one. The Couch Saver exists because cats scratch couches; the Auto-Pilot Laser exists because most laser pointers are too boring to hold a cat's attention. If a product doesn't change a moment in a pet owner's day, it doesn't make it.

Is it built to outlast its first season? Pet products live a hard life — chewed, dragged, washed, sat on. We pick items with single-piece construction, dense materials, and the kind of stitching that doesn't unravel in month two.

Is it good-looking enough to live in your home? Pet products end up on your floor, your couch, and in your photos. We pick ones that don't shout — muted colors, clean silhouettes, no logos the size of a dinner plate.

Is it priced honestly? We mark up enough to keep the lights on and the shipping fast — not enough to feel like we're squeezing you.

What we say no to: anything supplier-watermarked, anything with vague '100% premium quality' copy and zero specifics, anything that's been recolored from last year's hit on Amazon.

We're a small shop, on purpose. Every product carries a piece of our reputation, and every customer carries the next product we add.
